Why Do I Study Japanese?

I chose to study Japanese because it is a language I have been interested in for a long time that I have never gotten the opportunity to study in an academic setting. In addition to this, I have visited Japan twice and hugely enjoyed spending time getting to know Japanese culture and tradition. I also find traditional Japanese art and music very alluring and I would love to be able to grow my appreciation for it through language study. I also have a fascination with capitalism and consumerism in Japan. When I was there, I noticed how important presentation of a product or meal is. Nearly everything is wrapped in plastic or presented in an aesthetically pleasing way. I think this is a very unique and politically implicative art form.

As far at language learning, the sentence structure of Japanese is very different from the languages I've studied thus far. That is the biggest challenge yet, but I know that I have kanji readings to look forward to and anticipate that being a rewarding challenge.

This is a Japanese ambient sounds album from the 90's that I really like
